Let me tell you a story
Let me tell you a story of three women I met in Lagos: Adaeze, Ngozi, and Oluwaseun.
Their tales intertwine like the vibrant patterns of Ankara fabric, each thread a dream deferred, a potential unrealized, and a voice silenced by the cacophony of daily life.
Adaeze's eyes once held the fire of a thousand suns. When she spoke of her ambitions, the air crackled with electricity. But as the years passed, that fire dimmed, smothered by the expectations of others and the relentless march of time.
Ngozi carried her dreams like precious cargo, carefully wrapped and tucked away for safekeeping. She told herself, "One day, when the time is right, I'll unwrap them." But that day never seemed to come.
Oluwaseun wore her aspirations like ill-fitting clothes, always adjusting, always uncomfortable, never quite believing she deserved to wear them at all.
This is not just their story. It is our story. It is the narrative of countless brilliant minds across Africa and beyond, whose voices have been muffled by self-doubt, by societal expectations, by the sheer weight of survival.
But what if I told you that we have the power to rewrite these stories? To pick up the pen and author a new chapter?
Remember the parable of the prodigal son? He was reduced to feeding pigs until he remembered his true identity. Imagine if he had never returned home, never reclaimed his narrative. He would have perished among the swine, his potential forever unrealized.
My fluffy life family, when will you stop shrinking? When will you cease feeling unworthy of occupying space in rooms of power? When will you shed the cloak of imposter syndrome and step into the light of your own brilliance? It is time to set your soul ablaze, as I have set mine. This is why I invite you - no, I implore you - to join me for the Year-End Review and Reset Workshop. In this transformative experience, we will explore this curriculum.
This is not merely about setting goals. It's about reclaiming our narratives, about challenging the notion that our stories are already written. As Chimamanda Adichie often says, "The danger of a single story is not that it is untrue, but that it is incomplete." This workshop is about completing our stories, about embracing the fullness of who we are and who we are meant to become.
Listen to Jumoke, a professional who hired me as her Coach this year.
When ED asked us about our quarterly goals, I had settled in to just coast till the end of the year. I am physically, emotionally and otherwise exhausted. The load has been too heavy and has been for a long time. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I'll describe myself as functionally depressed. Just going through the motions.
But the question made me question myself for so many nights till I had to just get up and do something, try to find my way back to feeling something, get excited about something, feel purpose. So I picked one thing on my goals, the biggest and scariest.
I'm pleased to share I have been accepted to the INSEAD Executive MBA programme. This has been a dream/goal I have nurtured for over 20 years.
I haven't been back to extensive school that long and frankly I don't know the madness I'm undertaking with the way the Naira is levitating but I am stepping into it in faith and a spark of life and excitement, and feeling again.
Can you see how her 20 year-old-dream came to pass just by listening to me?
Vanessa, who also hired me as a Coach said: "Before I met ED, I was a secondary character in my own life story. Now, I am the author, the protagonist, the hero. I've rediscovered parts of myself I had forgotten and found the courage to dream bigger than ever before."
