THE BETRAYAL I NEVER SAW COMING
THE BETRAYAL I NEVER SAW COMING.
I was in my twenties—young, hopeful, and perhaps a little too trusting. I confided in a friend and colleague about the frustrations and politics brewing in our work environment. What I didn’t know was that she was recording me.
She played the audio for the MD and other decision-makers.
She got a promotion while I got hostility and silence, until I eventually resigned.
Years later, someone told me they bumped into her. She confessed that everything I said back then actually happened. Every concern I raised unfolded before their eyes and as fate would have it, she eventually became the epicenter of the crises I had once spoken about.
I won't lie, betrayal has a taste. And it’s bitter. It bruised something in me but I chose not to let it define me.
I took responsibility for my own error: oversharing without discernment. She may have recorded me, but I gave her access.
We were both wrong.
So I did what pain demands of us, I turned it into character. I used it to refine my discernment, sharpen my boundaries, and deepen my emotional intelligence.
Betrayal is a brutal but brilliant teacher. Lean into it.
Lick your wounds. Then learn the lesson.
Because the goal is not just to heal, but to evolve.
